"Nice Girls" on Reddit
The #MeToo movement has shaken up our culture. Actions that have rested in a gray area for decades are now starkly unacceptable--even if they happened decades ago. Rules are changing, behaviors are challenged, and many are stepping up. This movement is empowering many who have had no voice.
"Nice guys" have surfaced who feel angry, entitled and delusional in what they feel they are owed by women. At the same time, "nice girls" are materializing. These women are feeling the same anger, entitlement, and delusions in their stories that the men are feeling, with one major difference: in their reactions, men turn on women around them, and the women are turning on themselves.
This article in MEL talks about these nice girls and the toxic actions that drive them inward with unhealthy behaviors.
What causes men to react outward and women to react inward: DNA, hormones, the patriarchy, our mothers, the system? Whatever the reason, we need to acknowledge that it is happening and challenge the behaviors.
If we want the #MeToo movement to move us to a better place, and to have sustainability, we need to examine and learn from the questions it is forcing us to ask.
