Become a Mushroom Guide

Written by: ERIN WEIST

There is a mushroom church growing in Utah and they have big news. The Divine Assembly (TDA) was born in the heart of Mormon central with one purpose: provide everyone an opportunity to connect with the Divine. This growing community is now worldwide and allows people some religious protections to define spirituality for themselves using psilocybin to connect with their inner knowing, their community, and the universe around them. And now they want to teach people how to help each other do this even better.

The Divine Assembly is releasing courses designed to teach people how to guide others on their mushroom journeys using best practices and created with spiritual enlightenment in mind. There are three courses: one designed for navigators, one for guides, and one for therapists. Navigators is a term they use for those not necessarily guiding a mushroom trip (although they can be present if desired) but who hold space for a person before and integration after their mushroom journey. The navigator creates a gentle, safe space for a person to craft the kind of journey they are looking for and a continuing safe space afterward to process their journey and integrate all of the elements back into the person’s everyday life. Guides also provide preparation before and integration after a journey but their main focus is support during the journey partaking of the sacrament of psilocybin. The guide watches over someone in an altered state, checking their body and mind throughout the journey to make sure everyone is safe, and act as a touchpoint to remind the journeyer of their intentions. A guide doesn’t influence a trip but gently leads someone out on the mushrooms and then gently back again once the heaviest influence of mushrooms wears off. The course for therapists is intended to help those already practicing therapy to learn best practices for integrating a person’s mushroom journey into their therapy sessions.

The courses from TDA (find them here!) have contributions from doctors, therapists, guides, spiritual leaders, and journeyers with various levels of experience. The information in them is meant to teach people to safely guide and support others on their experiences with psychedelics. This space is something people have experimented with for thousands of years with varying degrees of success and safety. The goal of these courses is to create practices in society that are safe, legal, and benefitting all of humanity. The more we seek out safe practices the better this space will be for others to join and create a healthy way for people to experience psychedelics and develop their spirituality. For anyone wanting to be a part of creating this safe space you will want to check out these courses and increase your awareness of how psychedelic journeys can be done in healthy and supportive ways.
