Local Utah Gifting Guide

by MADISAN HINKHOUSE

The most wonderful time of the year (according to some) is nearing and that means you are currently shopping for gifts or will be scrambling for a gift in the near future.

While you could just open an Amazon browser, that isn’t doing much good for the local community (or anyone honestly). And with the supply chain shortages and shipping woes, your packages may not even show up in time.

Here are some local gift ideas for your loved ones.

Local Restaurant Gift Cards

For the person who doesn’t want any more things, a gift card to a locally-owned restaurant is the perfect gift that they can use at any time. Some favorites include:

  • Pizza NoNo - Everyone loves pizza.

  • SLC Eatery - Modern eatery with all of the classics that feels a little fancy.

  • Pago - Farm to table and sustainable.

  • From Scratch - For the healthy one.

  • Zest - Vega fusion with deliciously fun cocktails.

The Hive Market

The Hive Market is a really cool concept. It’s a large (two-story) shop that sells items made by all local craftsmen and artists. You’ll find something for everyone on your list, this is the ideal place to find unique stocking stuffers.

The Gift Of Learning

Someone will never forget a gift that taught them a new skill. From cooking classes to painting, gifting a workshop or class is a gift that will last a lifetime for someone.

Salt Lake City Culinary Education is a great place for a cooking class that ends in enjoying a gorgeous meal with your classmates. They also offer pastries classes and knife skills workshops. Along those same lines, The Bitters Lab offers workshops on making homemade bitters and cocktails, you can also just gift their artisan cocktail additions.

When it comes to art, Workshop SLC is a great option for painting classes. They have a full slate of different classes, so there is something for anyone. You can simply purchase a gift card and the recipient can choose which class best fits their personality.

Dancing Crane

Eclectic and gorgeous, Dancing Crane is self-described as an “Emporium Of World Culture.” The shop is full of treasures from all around the world, they have crystals, incense, jewelry, meditation accessories and so much more. The collection of gorgeous art and tapestries is amazing. You have to go in to experience the wonders of the Sugar House shop.

The Gift Of Experiences

In a world filled with things, maybe you’re looking to give the gift of experiences or quality time this holiday season. You’re in luck, Salt Lake City is home to so many great ways to experience the arts in person. From theater to dance and music, tickets to one of these events will be a hit. And it supports the artists who’ve likely had a tough few years getting through the pandemic.

Remember, when you shop local you are supporting a member your community and their family, which is an incredible gift.
