Upcoming Utah Cann Event: Focus on Art & Music

This Saturday, inside The Shops at South Town, Utah Cann will hold its 4th conference revolving around cannabis, educating people about products and introducing businesses that serve the cannabis community. Originally begun in 2018, Utah Cann was introduced as a way of helping people understand the medical benefits of cannabis as Utah was debating Prop 2, which ultimately passed and broadened access to medical marijuana. After the laws changed in 2018 (and again broadened in 2019), people surged to this event, going from a few hundred attendees to thousands of visitors, looking to learn more and find companies producing cannabis-related products.

Although derailed for 2 years during the height of Covid-19, the exposition continues to grow and attract more people and businesses each year. And 2023 will be no different. This year’s event has turned slightly whimsical, the focus being billed as a place “where Art, Music, and Cannabis collide.” In addition to encouraging cannabis related products and services to become more socially acceptable, the creators are also bringing a focus on introduction to “emerging psychoactive medicine alternatives” (such as psilocybin and ketamine) “and highlight the art and music they inspire.” Thus, this year’s event is sponsored by Dreamscapes, a project of the non-profit group Utah Arts Alliance. Dreamscapes is a collaboration of hundreds of artists using upcycled and reclaimed materials to create colorful, whimsical surroundings, similar to a psychedelic trip. To further induce attendees into a simulated psychedelic world, Dreamscapes is also hosting a silent disco as an optional ticket add-on.

The connection between plant medicines and creating art & music is undeniable and has been part of cultures for thousands of years. This convention is the perfect tie to welcome that creative muse into our current culture and bring awareness to the connection people can have with their creativity.
