Psychedelics as a Rite of Passage

Written By: BLUE BIRD

Imagine this: you’re 18 years old, just graduated high school, and ready to explore life on your own. You’re beyond excited to enter the adult world, you have beautiful ideas of co-creation, and you may just burst with the eager energy of youth.

At this stage in life, you’re ready to learn what the world has to offer you. There are so many paths to take, things to discover, and lessons to learn. The sea of opportunity has expanded, and you’re ready to set sail.

Now, imagine that you get to enter this fascinating era with universal truth and knowledge bestowed upon you through the power of psychedelics. Imagine learning the essence of your being as you spread your fledgling wings into adulthood. What would you do with this power? What would you do with your knowledge?

Would you follow the path that society set in place for you, or would you feel empowered to create your own meaning? Would you become victim to the crushing anxiety and depression that attacks so many young adults? Or would you learn the incredible healing tools that psychedelics inherently contain?

As children grow into adults, they should be taught about their creative power. Their communities can support them so that when they come of age, they will be prepared to learn universal truth through psychedelics. Then, they can take that knowledge with them as they make important life decisions. As they enter the new phases of their lives, they can do so with foundations of truth and peace.

We are in a beautiful psychedelic renaissance where ancient knowledge and traditions are coming back to light. We are learning new practices and creating rituals to heal trauma, enlighten, and give life guidance. As we create societal rituals, it is important for us to keep in mind the youth who will be partaking of substances when they come of age. We can be the sages and wisdom givers and guide youths as they undergo the ceremonial psychedelic rite of passage.

The transition into adulthood is a beautiful experience choice and exploration. If psychedelic experiences become a rite of passage, young adults will be given incredible tools to help them explore themselves, the universe, and the world around them.
