Summer Concludes With Plenty Of Great Concerts

After a 2020 summer that was barren with no concerts or festivals, summer 2021 offers a re-do with lots of great outdoor music.

I am talking about the classic, local-favorite Twilight Concert Series - in both Ogden and Salt Lake City.

I know, Ogden seems like a long haul from Salt Lake City, but with UTA’s FrontRunner train it’s a quick trip and the train is a pretty fun way to hang out with your group before (and after) the show.

The Salt Lake Twilight series has been around for a while and after a few location changes, the shows are now back at their original venue - The Gallivan Center in downtown Salt Lake City.

With tickets for $15.00, the Salt Lake series is the perfect way to spend a Thursday (with one Friday and one Saturday) evening thanks to the Salt Lake City Arts Council.

This year’s lineup features some 90s favorites, new indy and even some local bluegrass to please most people’s taste.

Here’s a full look at the lineup (headliner appears first in list):

  • August 26, 2021: Thundercat, Remi Wolf, Giraffe

  • September 2, 2021: Neon Trees, Peach Tree Rascals, The Rubies

  • September 18, 2021: St. Vincent (TBD on other artists)

  • September 24, 2021: Lake Street Drive, Pixie & The Partygrass Boys

My recommendations? Thundercat is going to be a fun, funky show, perfect for a summer evening dance party. Lake Street Drive is a wonderful band and the opener for that show - Pixie & The Partygrass Boys - are a really fun, local bluegrass band that will be well worth your time to check out.

Ogden Twilight Concerts

The city of Ogden, Utah’s Twilight summer concert series has taken off over the past few years with bookings of great bands and artists. Like the Salt Lake series, admission is affordable at $10-$15 per ticket.

Ogden Twilight features more concerts with a greater variety than Salt Lake’s. Artists like Big Wild and The Flaming Lips have played the series multiple times. Portugal. The Man, a very popular indie-persuasion rock band, are back this year in what is probably a highlight for most music fans.

The Ogden Amphitheater, home of all the Twilight shows, is located right in the heart of downtown Ogden, close to a plethora of bars and restaurants for a bite before or a drink after the show. Best of all, the amphitheatre is a short walk from the FrontRunner station.

The full lineup follows (headliner listed first):

  • August 28, 2021: Louis The Child, Washed Out (DJ Set)

  • September 3, 2021: Spoon, Nicole Atkins, Kasadoom

  • September 4, 2021: Noah Cyrus, Ant Clemons, Cop Kid

  • September 10, 2021: Death Cab For Cutie, Deep Sea Diver

  • September 16, 2021: Purity Ring, Dawn Richard, Oorb

  • September 21, 2021: Portugal. The Man, Japanese Breakfast, The Moss

  • September 25, 2021: Grouplove, BLACKSTARKIDS

Happy dancing!
