WhyKiKi is one of Salt Lake City’s newest bars -- and dare I say one of the best?

A tiki bar in the mountains with drag shows… say less.

WhyKiKi is located in the heart of downtown Salt Lake City on 16 West and 100 South. The inside makes one feel as if you’ve landed on an Island Paradise with the decor, vibes and drink menu.

The new hang-out is passionate about inclusivity and loving and supporting Utah’s LGBTQ+ community, and they do all of that while throwing amazing parties.

They proudly describe themselves as, “The place for everyone.”

The Food & Drinks

Just what you’d expect from a Tiki bar, WhyKiKi has incredible craft cocktails that range from fruity and delicious (Bahama Mama) to sour and candy-like (Dew Me). They even have the classic “Fish Bowl” cocktail served in a giant bowl complete with Swedish Fish and Nerds Candy. Any drink you get here will be brightly colored and Instagram-worthy.

Pro tip: Go for brunch. They have a specialty dish called “Chicks n’ Dicks” that you must try (if it’s not obvious, this meal isn’t suitable for children’s eyes). If you’re in the mood for something savory, you can’t go wrong with a flatbread.

The Shows

WhyKiKi is quickly becoming the best place in Salt Lake City to catch a drag show. With night shows and drag breakfasts, you’ve got options.

Famous drag queen Ursula Major is one of the many well-known names on the lineup for WhyKiKi.

The other wonderful thing about WhyKiKi? They have theme nights, or as they like to call them “Vibe Nights.” For example, the month of October is full of fun themes, like “Coven”, “Sexy Costumes”, and “Monster Mashup”.

Don’t worry, it’s not just October, they have new weekend themes each month, who doesn’t want an excuse to dress up any month of the year?

Other Places To Catch A Drag Show In Salt Lake City

While I highly recommend WhyKiKi, from the tiki cocktails and decor to wonderful music and pride fun, there are a few other places to support the drag community in Salt Lake City.

Metro Music Hall often hosts shows (with no regular schedule) along with The Complex. You’ll have to check their websites for upcoming shows. Currently, Metro Music Hall is running a brand new Salt Lake City based show by Viva La DIVA called Trick-or-Treat Diva (they’ll have other seasonal shows). Viva La DIVA has rave reviews featuring comedy, dancing and music. Some of the cosplay includes Freddy Mercury, Dolly Parton and Mary Poppins.

Supporting local drag is a great way to support our local arts and LGBTQ+ community.
